  Stoltze Presents Swissted Boston
  
  Swissted is an ongoing project by graphic designer Mike Joyce, owner of Stereotype Design in New York City. Drawing from his love of punk rock and Swiss Modernism, two movements that have (almost) nothing to do with one another, Mike has redesigned vintage punk, hardcore, new wave, and indie rock show flyers into international typographic style posters. Each design is set in lowercase Berthold Akzidenz-Grotesk Medium (not Helvetica). Every single one of these shows actually happened.    

  Please join us for the exclusive opening and book signing with the artist Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 6:30-9:30 pm.  

  The exhibit will also be open to the public during Fort Point ArtWalk (Friday, May 10, 4-7 pm; Saturday, May 11, 12-5 pm; and Sunday, May 12, 12-5 pm), and by appointment through August. The exhibit is made possible with kind support from A to A Studio Solutions.

  AIGA Rhode Island presents a lecture by Design Office members Micah Barrett, John Caserta and Greg Nemes about Modern Pictograms: an icon typeface for interface designers. The project was a collaborative effort involving the drawing of the icons, the creation of a typeface for them, a printed specimen and a website to promote and sell the latest version.

  The lecture will deal with issues of type design, offset printing and web design and development.

  Linotype: The Film is a feature-length documentary centered around the Linotype type casting machine. Called the “Eighth Wonder of the World” by Thomas Edison, it revolutionized printing and society. The film tells the surprisingly emotional story of the people connected to the Linotype and how it impacted the world.

  Director Doug Wilson will give a post-screening talk about the making of the film.

  Since 1982, graphic designer Michael Bierut has carried a series of notebooks in which he writes incessantly and draws occasionally. These books are, in effect, the diaries of a working life that spans four decades. Michael will give a short talk about what these books mean to him, followed by a conversation with our own Doug Scott.

  The brief: Transform the content of Une Petite Maison, a publication of the great architect and passionate bookmaker Le Corbusier, into a contemporary attractive publication. You are free to choose type, form and format, to search for evidence, to complement and reduce, to interprete and to add own thoughts–if your efforts are reflective and aim for an up-to-date communication of the architects historic work.
  
  Forget about the original and create you own product. Imagine your target audience to be young architects, knowing little about Le Corbusier and nothing about the “little house” and often ignoring the relevance of books for their search for knowledge.
